AIS Students Lead a Clothing Donation Drive for the Red Cross
Ayeyarwaddy International School students from The Burman Group spearheaded a clothing donation drive to help assist the less fortunate in the community. Understanding the importance of giving back, these thoughtful students placed cloth donation boxes in every classroom, urging their classmates to donate gently used clothes. Indeed, it was an effort to raise at-school awareness of the needs of others and the spirit of compassion and solidarity.
On Saturday, the committed students of AIS paid a visit to the Red Cross Church with the items collected. The atmosphere was enthusiastic as they were received quite hospitably by the chairman of the group from the Red Cross, showing great appreciation for their multitude of donations. He also spoke quite inspiringly of the Red Cross mission and its operation, and how it pours its heart out for humanity in disaster and calamity.
During the meeting, the chairman gave a very detailed presentation of how the Red Cross came into being, explaining its history and its important role in providing assistance during crises. The students enjoyed the presentation immensely, learning that even donations make a big difference in the lives of less fortunate people.
This further crystallized community service in the minds of students at AIS and also provided them with an opportunity first to experience the change that unified efforts can bring into other people’s lives. Through the clothes donation drive, they showed that small gestures, too, can make a big difference in other people’s lives by incorporating the virtues of compassion and philanthropy that the Red Cross embodies.
