On 21st July 2024, The Burman held its inaugural charity art exhibition which consisted of 36 art pieces by 14 school children from Yangon and Mandalay. This medium-sized gallery event was constructed with the aim of introducing students of different backgrounds to various artistic talents. With all the artworks, fundraising items, and tickets sold, the exhibition raised 2 million kyats with 150 attendees present.
The exhibited works of art included different art styles from portraits and realistic works to abstract pieces by the artists; the works showcased the capabilities of the featured artists. A percentage of artwork sales, as decided by the artist, was donated by the organisation to disadvantaged children in charitable education centres such as YEC, impacting a total of 500 beneficiaries. Students from charitable educational institutions like Paung Daw Oo were among the people invited to the exhibition. In fact, many students from the same institution stated that the art exhibition helped them grow interest in different art forms. The guests were also served coffee while buying tote bags and pins.
Months of preparation went into organising the event, with volunteers and members working tirelessly behind the scenes. Reflecting on the experience, one member said:
“Being the first physical project held by The Burman, the preparation stage of the art exhibition was met with a list of obstacles. The art exhibition could have been cancelled. However, due to the hard work, active participation, and passion held by The Burman, the art exhibition was successful, marking a great initiation for our organisation.”The event also left a positive impact on the students in attendance, inspiring their interest in art. As one attendee shared: “The art exhibition was a wonderful experience and left quite a lasting impression on me. The paintings were amazing, and the coffee was great.”
