Society

Buddhism not only influenced the culture of Myanmar, it also influenced our society. Buddha said that we should avoid 5 percepts, which are killing, stealing, lying, sexual misconduct, and intoxication, these as ethical guidelines for many people. The goal for Buddhism is to reach the state of enlightenment also known as Nirvana and Buddha said that the way to achieve it is to meditate. So many Burmese meditate and it helps them to focus on the present moment, to keep calm, and to cherish the present moment.

Education

Monasteries offer kids education no matter how wealthy they are. This system allows poor families and orphanages to receive an education. The monks not only teach students about academics, they also teach about the 5 percepts. Even in public or international schools, students learn about the history and teachings of Buddha.
